The EKAHA Youth Group is open to all EKAHA youth members, as well as other youth who would like to participate and learn more about Arabian Horses. No Arabian ownership necessary.  Just remind all those adults who want to attend our events that they must be accompanied by a youth! Our Youth Leader is Peter Grassl, who owns three Arabian horses, enjoys showing, and has tons of experience with planning, leading and mentoring youth through his years of volunteer work with the Boy Scouts. If you or your parents ever have questions about our group, or upcoming activities, contact Mr. Grassl at pogbowman@gmail.com or cell: 913.481.5469.

All the latest!

EKAHA Youth Members Learn Secrets to Taking Great Photos of Horses

The latest EKAHA Youth activity was Sunday, June 13 at Covered M Arena/Imagine Farms. Local professional photographer and EKAHA member, Kathy Wismer, www.kathywismer.com, gave an educational program on photographing horses.

The rain stopped long enough for Kathy to share her time and talents, and all agreed the photo shoot was educational and fun.

Model and expectant mother, Maya, owned by Peter and Cathy Grassl, turned out to be pretty photogenic and cooperated just as nicely as mother nature did!

A potluck dinner followed the photo shoot - EKAHA youth activities are gaining a reputation for having some pretty good food!

Thanks to EKAHA President John Simmons and his wife, Donna, for attending.

Lots of photos were taken, so if anyone finds they have a good one they'd like to share, send them to Chrissy Norris for posting on the EKAHA Facebook page. Her contact info: "Chrissy Norris" <chrissyn@fairpoint.net>,

Unless the Youth group would like to plan something for July (we are open to ideas), the next event will be the EKAHA annual meeting and board election on Saturday, August 14. We'll meet in the parking lot of the T-Bones' Community American Ballpark before the game. SAVE THE DATE. More info about tickets and scheduling are soon to come.

For an upcoming (probably in the fall) Youth meeting, we will schedule a jewelry and horseshoe art activity, as requested by our members.

EKAHA Youth Horse Wash Recap

The Horse Wash fundraiser at the Border Bonanza was a success – because everyone had fun, made new friends, and a few horses even came away sparklingly clean! Thanks must go to Pleasant Hill Pet & Livestock Center and and CM Tack of Shawnee, Kan. for donating supplies. Thanks also to the horse owners who patronized our wash and to the EKAHA moms who assisted and may have gotten as wet as the horses during the process. Visit the EKAHA Youth page for photos!

Next meeting, Sunday June 13 at 5pm

Hey, Youth Club members...what's the secret to taking a great photo of your horse, dog, or cat? Do you need a fancy camera or will a cell-phone camera do the job? Photography can be fun and lead to an exciting hobby or career. Where to start?

The next Youth Club meeting will be lead by Kathy Wismer. She's a leading professional photographer in the greater Kansas City area and EKAHA member. Ms. Wismer will share some of her tips for capturing your subject in the right lighting, setting, and perspective to produce a WOW photo. You may view samples of her work at ww.kathywismer.com.

The EKAHA Youth Club will meet on Sunday, June 13th at 5 pm. Point your GPS unit to 17100 West 53rd Street in Shawnee, Kansas. We'll meet at Imagine Farms in the East barn.  The meeting is starting later because the lighting is better for photographs.

Based upon member feedback, we'll make this a potluck event as well. Food and photos equals fun! For more information, contact Peter Grassl at 913.481.5469 or ogbowman@gmail.com.

 Strand Shirted by EKAHA Youth

Members of the Youth Club presented an EKAHA shirt to Ryan Strand of Liberty Meadows. Strand presented a pro-gram to the youth several months ago about success in the show ring. The youth caught up with Strand at the MO*KAN Border Bonanza at noon on Saturday to honor him for his contribution to their club. In the picture: Hailee, Ryan Strand, Maggie, Skylar, and a soccer friend.

  EKAHA Youth Make a Splash

The EKAHA Youth Club made a splash at the recent MO*KAN Border Bonanza! The Club washed horses of all colors on Thursday evening prior to the start of the show. Members were organized into teams to tackle the horses which needed a cleaning prior to the start of the show. At the end of the wash session, horses were clean while everyone had a good time and new friendships were made. Oh yes, some of the water was directed towards the club members in fun!

The idea for this activity came up several months ago when the youth decided they wanted to hold a fund raising activity and voted to hold a horse wash at the upcoming area show.

Safety and teamwork were important, so a practice session was held in March at Imagine Farms.

The Youth Club wishes to thank Pleasant Hill Pet & Livestock Center and and CM Tack of Shawnee, Kansas for donating the supplies for the fundraiser.
